Airport and Transport
Canberra Airport is located approximately 8km from the city centre and a taxi will cost approximately A$15.00 between the airport and the city centre. Alternatively Deane's Buslines operate the AirLiner Shuttle bus between the airport and Canberra City. Fares start at A$9.00 one way. Business Hours
Banks generally open from 9.30am – 4.00pm, Monday - Friday. General office hours are 9.00am – 5.00pm Monday - Friday. Post Offices operate during these hours, however stamps are often available from hotels.
Climate and Clothing
April is Autumn in Canberra, with temperatures ranging between 7 and 18 degrees Celsius. A light jacket is recommended for evenings. The dress code for all Conference functions is smart casual.
Eating Out
Nearby bistros, restaurants, cafes and coffee shops offer varied menus, prices and decor. Local specialties such as seafood and Australian wines are worth trying.
Privacy
Australia introduced the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 in 2001. The Conference Managers comply with such legislation which is designed to protect the rights of the individual to privacy of their information. Information collected in respect of proposed participation in any aspect of the Conference will be only used for the purposes of planning and conduct of the Conference and may also be provided to the organising body or to organisers of future events. It is also usual to produce a ‘delegate list’ of attendees at the Conference and to include the individual’s details in such a list. Consent for publication of the individual’s information may be withheld when completing the Registration Form for the Conference. Individuals are also entitled to access the information held by written application to the Conference Managers.
Shopping
General city shopping hours are Monday to Thursday 9.00am – 5.30pm with late night shopping on Friday to 9.00pm. Most shops are open all day Saturday 9.00am – 5.00pm and Sunday 10.00am – 4.00pm.
Time
In April, Canberra is on Daylight Savings time and is 11 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
