Carol Bennett
Carol Bennett is the Chief Executive Officer of the Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) – the peak organisation for health consumers in Australia. Ms Bennett leads CHF’s work to ensure a strong consumer voice and consumer participation in health reform through advocacy, policy development and consumer research.
Ms Bennett has worked at the executive level in health organisations for the last 15 years, including as CEO of peak national and state health bodies, and major consultancy roles with organisations including beyondblue.
A Masters Graduate in Public Policy from the Australian National University, Carol is committed to the role of non-government organisations as drivers of improved health outcomes for their communities.
Tessa Boyd-Caine
Tessa joined ACOSS in 2009. She has policy responsibility for health, community services and sector development. As Deputy CEO she is also responsible for membership and capacity building within the organisation.
Tessa has held policy, research, advocacy and management roles in the areas of human rights and criminal justice. In previous positions she has researched the legal, social and political implications of the UK’s Human Rights Act 1998; developed policy and engagement strategies on corporate social responsibility; coordinated the biennial human rights report to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Uganda, 2007); managed a forensic mental health jurisdiction in NSW; and administered a public education and publications program in criminology.
Tessa’s PhD from the London School of Economics examined executive discretion and the ublic protection agenda in decisions about the release of mentally disordered offenders. Her book, Protecting the public? Detention and release of mentally disordered offenders was published by Routledge in 2010.
Robert Fitzgerald
Robert has been a full time Commissioner with the Australian Government’s Productivity Commission since 2004 and has undertaken 13 national inquires. He is currently a Commissioner on the Inquiry into Australia’s Aged Care and Study into Early Childhood Development workforce. recently completed the Inquiry into the Not for Profit Sector. Robert has also been the convenor of the Working Group responsible for the production of the Overcoming Indigenous Disadvantage Report for COAG.
Robert practiced as a commercial solicitor for over 20 years and served on a number of government bodies including formerly as NSW Community and Disability Services Commissioner and Deputy Ombudsman and a member of the National Competition Council. Robert has recently been appointed by the Australian Government as the prospective Chair of the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission Advisory Board
He also has over 30 year’s voluntary involvement in the community services sector including previously as President of the Australian Council of Social Services and is currently on Board of The Benevolent Society and Foyer Foundation and on various university advisory bodies.
Robert holds degrees in law and commerce from UNSW. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1994 and is an Adjunct Professor at the Australian Catholic University.
Kirstie Galbraith
Kirstie Galbraith is the Director of the Postgraduate Studies & Professional Development Unit at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University. This unit has responsibility for the delivery of a suite of postgraduate programs including Master of Clinical Pharmacy, Master of Pharmacy Practice, and Master of Wound Care. Kirstie is also the coordinator of activities being undertaken by a group of four leading pharmacy schools entitled the National Alliance for Pharmacy Education (NAPE).
Kirstie has many years of experience as a hospital and community pharmacist. She is a member of the consortium which developed and delivers the Australian Clinical Educator Preparation program. Kirstie is also on the reference group for the Society of Hospital Pharmacists Clinical Competency Assessment Tool (shpaclinCAT) project. shpaclinCAT is a competency framework designed to support the professional development of Australian pharmacists. It was developed because there was no structured, formal and recognised process for reviewing and improving skills and knowledge for general level pharmacists within Australia.
Megan Ingram
Megan is a director of a private speech pathology service and a committee member of the Peninsula Allied Health Network (PAHN), which represents the Frankston-Mornington Peninsula Area south of Melbourne.
Megan has been a practicing Speech Pathologist for 18 years. In that time she worked in Australia and abroad within educational settings and community health before establishing a private practice.
Megan is a Certified Practicing Member of Speech Pathology Australia.
David Stokes
David is the Executive Manager, Professional Practice, for the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Prior to this role with the Society, David has a long history of working in the public health system in teaching hospitals around Melbourne and most recently managed Departments of Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology. David is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and has provided services for many years to departments of Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Neurology and General Medicine. In addition, he has conducted a private practice for patients with a variety of conditions but specialising in aged care and developmental psychology. While working with the APS, David has been closely involved from the perspective of psychology with government programs like Better Outcomes, Better Access and the mental health professions network initiatives. He has also recently represented allied health in the eHealth arena and has been a Clinical Lead for the NEHTA Clinical Leadership and Engagement team.
Emma Stirling
Emma Stirling APD is director of Scoop Nutrition consultancy and a dietitian with a strong background in strategic nutrition communication and writing.
Emma is a regular media commentator and writes for mainstream media and blogs, including Good Health, Diabetic Living and Weight Watchers magazines and GI News. In 2010 Emma launched the popular blog The Scoop on Nutrition www.scoopnutrition.com which profiles dietitians, nutritionists and students and offers a monthly mentoring program in social media, called Sub of the Month.
She has co-ordinated workshops on social media for the Dietitians Association Australia (DAA) national and state conferences and authored the DAA resource, Dialing into the Digital Age: Guidance on Social Media for Members of DAA
Emma is passionate about Twitter www.twitter.com/emmastirling as a professional tool and co-launched the monthly twitter chat #eatkit – tips and tricks from dietitians’ toolkits. She also curates a twitter list, “dietitians-down-under” which can be followed to capture nutrition news and tips from Australian APDs and nutritionists. Emma would love to connect with any health professionals on social media, her latest passions are instagram (@emmastirling) and pinterest (@emmastirling).
Jason Trethowan
Jason is the CEO for the Barwon Medicare Local which covers the greater Geelong region of Victoria. He has a background in health information management, health informatics and holds a Masters degree in business administration. Jason has substantial experience in partnerships, business operations, health system innovation and corporate governance. He has been responsible for the development of a leading headspace site, connecting health care providers such as private allied health using E-Health and the establishment of a GP Super Clinic.
